USNS Cape Rise is a United States Navy ship that was built in 1978 by General Dynamics Corporation in Quincy, Massachusetts. The ship was originally designed as a maritime prepositioning ship, which is used to preposition cargo and supplies in strategic locations around the world in support of the military.
USNS Cape Rise has a length of 948 feet, a beam of 106 feet, and a draft of 36.5 feet. It has a displacement of 65,000 tons and can accommodate up to 324 military personnel.
The ship has a large cargo hold with a capacity of 400,000 square feet, which makes it capable of carrying a variety of military equipment and supplies, including vehicles, ammunition, and food. USNS Cape Rise is also equipped with cranes and other handling equipment to facilitate the loading and unloading of cargo.
In addition to its primary mission as a prepositioning ship, USNS Cape Rise has also been used for humanitarian and disaster relief operations. The ship is crewed by civilian mariners and is operated by the Navy's Military Sealift Command.
